Jerome Facher:
[meeting inside the judge's chambers]
Last night I was at the ball game, it was the seventh inning stretch, I was standing there I don't know why but it occurred to me unless you've proven any chemicals actually reached the wells there's no case: therefore there's no need for the families who've suffered so much to relive the suffering by putting them on the stand. Judge Walter J. Skinner:
That's interesting I think I'd have to agree with that, if the jury decides favorably on the geological evidence then you can bring your families. Jan Schlichtmann:
[protesting against Facher's suggestion]
The jury came into this courtroom expecting a human drama but instead for three months we've been giving them lessons in geology but we had to do that and it's over, finally: they want to testify, they need to testify

All right If you like that word I'll use it
00:00:02.566 --> 00:00:04.132
Unless you've proven that any
00:00:04.133 --> 00:00:06.213
poisons actually reached the wells
00:00:06.084 --> 00:00:09.425
there's no case
00:00:09.426 --> 00:00:13.001
And therefore no need to make these families
00:00:13.096 --> 00:00:15.013
who've already suffered so much
00:00:15.001 --> 00:00:17.767
relive their suffering all over again
00:00:18.056 --> 00:00:20.729
by putting them on the stand
00:00:23.523 --> 00:00:26.442
Your Honour you've got That's interesting
00:00:26.443 --> 00:00:27.901
What
00:00:27.902 --> 00:00:29.821
I think I'd have to agree with that
00:00:30.053 --> 00:00:31.822
Well Your Honour Yes
00:00:31.823 --> 00:00:36.243
if the jury decides favourably on the geological evidence
00:00:36.244 --> 00:00:38.537
yes then you could bring your families in Otherwise
00:00:38.538 --> 00:00:40.003
Your Honour the jury came into this
00:00:40.001 --> 00:00:41.415
courtroom expecting a human drama
00:00:41.416 --> 00:00:43.364
I don't care what they expect Instead for three months
00:00:43.365 --> 00:00:45.021
we've been giving them lessons in geology
00:00:45.211 --> 00:00:47.088
Now we had to do that but now it's over finally
00:00:47.881 --> 00:00:49.465
Now it's time Now
00:00:49.466 --> 00:00:51.175
we have to see where we are before we can move on
00:00:51.176 --> 00:00:54.003
And before we subject these families
00:00:54.012 --> 00:00:56.138
to more trauma than is necessary
00:00:56.139 --> 00:00:58.001
Because that would just be cruel
00:00:58.998 --> 00:01:00.225
They They want to testify Mr Schlichtmann
