My physical health was really,
really bad. And then, one day, I noticed that I was finding it difficult
to use my right arm and I began to get a bit scared. I was admitted to the Broderip Ward,
which was the HIV unit, and it had a very nice plaque
saying, "This ward is the first Aids unit
in Britain." And my boss came in, my gay boss came in
to see me on the ward... ..and he had obviously
read the plaque and he asked me, was I HIV positive? Um... ..and I said, "Well, yes," thinking it was safe to say yes,
because he was gay. He left, and then, the next day, I got noticed saying
my employment was terminated, on the grounds that I could
potentially be a health risk. And I was lying in my hospital bed
thinking, "What the hell was I going to do?"
