to honor Sirius this way... it might be simply because it was the brightest star
in the night sky at the time. But there might be more to it. The star, Sirius,
also plays a prominent role in the legends
of another great culture of antiquity, ancient Egypt, where it was associated with the annual
flooding of the Nile and the new year and was a symbol
of their great goddess, Isis. And this is not
the only curious connection between ancient Egypt and ancient Malta. Maltese fishing boats are traditionally
