The strangest thing was
Andy had a separate painting office at the factory
on a separate floor. So one day I had to go up to that
floor to ask him a question and I saw that his hands were
full of paint and he was doing these portraits of his mother,
but like finger painting. And the paint was really thick and it was the most impasto,
the most textured, and I said, "What are they?" He said, "Oh, it's my mother,
it's my mother." Now, it turned out that
his mother had died that year, 1972, but he didn't tell anybody. He didn't even tell Jed Johnson, his boyfriend, who had been
living with him since he got shot

The strangest thing was
Andy had a separate painting
00:00:05.024 --> 00:00:09.002
office at the factory
on a separate floor.
00:00:09.002 --> 00:00:12.028
So one day I had to go up to that
floor to ask him a question
00:00:12.028 --> 00:00:15.096
and I saw that his hands were
full of paint and he was doing
00:00:15.096 --> 00:00:20.998
these portraits of his mother,
but like finger painting.
00:00:20.998 --> 00:00:22.016
And the paint was really thick and
00:00:22.016 --> 00:00:26.072
it was the most impasto,
the most textured, and I said,
00:00:26.072 --> 00:00:27.076
"What are they?"
00:00:27.076 --> 00:00:29.096
He said, "Oh, it's my mother,
it's my mother."
00:00:31.036 --> 00:00:37.044
Now, it turned out that
his mother had died that year, 1972,
00:00:37.044 --> 00:00:38.096
but he didn't tell anybody.
00:00:40.072 --> 00:00:42.076
He didn't even tell Jed Johnson,
00:00:42.076 --> 00:00:46.024
his boyfriend, who had been
living with him since he got shot.
