experiment with this subject matter, and I think
it's somewhat of an homage, but also a desire to transcend. It's a painting about the night
before the death of Christ, who then is going
to become transformed through the Resurrection. I would maintain that
he was always religious. His religion never left him, and that, at different times,
it had a greater intensity for him. And as he became older, he became better at allowing it
to be part of him, and he could express it
in the way he wished to
