After America, Dali and Gala
returned to Portlligat and their beloved fisherman's
cottage, which became his main studio. With his usual personal take, Alistair Sooke got
close to his subject by bringing us inside Dali's home. Look at these enormous windows, just letting in all of this
beautiful Portlligat light. You can imagine a couple of melting
watches floating there and you've got your Dali
masterpiece. He always sat down in this white
armchair and had the canvas arranged on this structure in front of him. And this is really,
really ingenious. It actually allows Dali
to move the canvas up and down through the floor so he could paint
on this vast scale. And you can see all of his paints
and brushes, the details so precise and were so
important to him that he had to use these tools, these very, very fine sable hair
brushes to kind of get the effect
that he needed

You can imagine a couple of melting

through the floor so he could paint
on this vast scale.
00:00:45.032 --> 00:00:48.028
And you can see all of his paints
and brushes,
00:00:48.028 --> 00:00:51.024
the details so precise and were so
important to him

that he had to use these tools,
00:00:53.000 --> 00:00:55.036
these very, very fine sable hair
brushes
00:00:55.036 --> 00:00:57.006
to kind of get the effect
that he needed.
