I say we start a fire. I absolutely love the heart-throb,
rock star, sort of, Monet, Johnny Depp figure, of this idea of
him rebelling against the Salon. For artists to stage their own
exhibition was unheard of. These were 19th-century painters
with a punk rock attitude. There should be a crowd queue
around the corner. To prepare for the show, Monet returned to Le Havre. And almost 150 years later, Andrew Graham-Dixon took us
to the spot where Monet painted the work that put the Impressionists
on the map. Monet hurried to get into position
as the sun rose above the waves, but, once there,
he worked very quickly, just 46 minutes, to produce... ..a really rather famous painting
