The myth of Beethoven is that

and all that sort of thing, but, in fact, he depends
on them very much. Beethoven is a freelancer. That means he has to piece together
a living from composing and performing and teaching and patrons, and one of those patrons
is Lichnowsky, who gives him a really very generous
yearly stipend of 600 florins
