On July 28th, I did the
first consecration of a boy in the small synagogue
of the Jewish hospital. The following day, on July 29th,
I married the first Jewish couple in Berlin in the small synagogue
in Rykestrasse. Amid all the terrible suffering,
murder and savagery in Auschwitz, two people had found each other. This was the first joyous
day for the newly awakened Berlin congregation
