[siren wails] [reporter] The explosion ripped through
the auditorium of St. Matthew’s College as the Home Secretary
delivered her speech on security. First on the scene were police officers
outside the venue who were to marshal the crowd
of civil-liberties protesters. They reported a scene of utter carnage
with smoke, ash and fires still burning from the explosion. There are reports of a number of deaths, but no confirmed figures
yet from the emergency services. Casualties, many of them
in a critical condition, have been transferred to two of
London’s four Major Trauma Centers. [news report] Just to be clear,
we still have no official confirmation from Downing Street or the Home Office
that the Home Secretary, Julia Montague, was among those injured in the blast
