Jim Young: [to the new recruits] God damn it you fucking guys you passed the Series Seven over a month ago. Seth's the only one opening the necessary forty accounts for his team leader, when I was a junior broker I did it in twenty six days. You're not sending out press packets anymore. None of this "Debbie the Time Life operator" bullshit, so get on the phone, it's time to get to work, get off your ass, motion creates emotion, I remember one time this guy call me up and wanted to sell me stock, so I let him. I got every rebuttal out of this guy, I kept him on the phone for an hour and a half, towards the end I started asking him "buying" questions like "what's the firm minimum?" that's a buying question, right there that guy's got to take me down. It's not like I asked him "what's your 800 number?" that's a "fuck off" question. I was giving him a run and he blew it, the answer to a question like that is "zero", you don't like the idea don't pick a single share, but this puss is telling me "a hundred shares" no! Wrong answer! you have to be closing all the time and be aggressive, learn how to push, ask them questions, ask them rhetorical questions ask them anything, just get a "yes" out of them, "if your drowning and I throw you a life jacket would you grab it?", "yes", good, pick up two hundred shares I won't let you down", ask them how'd they like to see thirty, forty percent returns, what are they going to say? "no, fuck you I don't want to see those returns", if you can't learn how to close you better start thinking about another career and I'm deadly serious about that, dead fucking serious, and have your rebuttals ready a guy says "call me tomorrow", bullshit, somebody tells you they got money problems about buying two hundred shares is lying to you, do you know what I'd say to that? "Tell me you don't like my firm, tell me you don't like my idea, and tell me you don't like my fucking neck tie, but don't tell me you can't put together twenty five hundred bucks, that's it I'm done

Towards the end I asked him questions like What's the firm minimum
00:00:38.824 --> 00:00:42.998
That's a buying question Right there that guy's gotta take me down
00:00:42.999 --> 00:00:45.151
It's not like What's your 800 number That's a fuck off question
00:00:45.228 --> 00:00:48.999
I was giving him a run and he blew it
00:00:48.997 --> 00:00:50.256
To a question like What is the firm minimum
00:00:50.331 --> 00:00:52.696
The answer is zero
00:00:52.766 --> 00:00:54.063
You don't like the idea don't pick up a single share
00:00:54.007 --> 00:00:57.395
But this putz is telling me you know Uh 100 shares
00:00:57.468 --> 00:00:59.494
Wrong answer No
00:00:59.057 --> 00:01:01.097
You have to be closing all the time
00:01:02.999 --> 00:01:04.999
And be aggressive Learn how to push
00:01:04.001 --> 00:01:06.999
Talk to 'em Ask 'em questions
00:01:06.001 --> 00:01:08.333
Ask 'em rhetorical questions It doesn't matter
00:01:08.041 --> 00:01:10.001
Anything Just get a yes out of 'em
00:01:10.477 --> 00:01:14.173
If you're drowning and I throw a life jacket would you grab it Yes
00:01:14.247 --> 00:01:17.181
Good Pick up 200 shares I won't let you down
00:01:17.249 --> 00:01:20.999
Ask 'em how they'd like to see 30 40 returns
00:01:20.055 --> 00:01:22.999
What are they gonna say No Fuck you
00:01:22.001 --> 00:01:26.956
I don't wanna see those returns Stop laughing It's not funny
00:01:26.003 --> 00:01:30.999
If you can't learn to close you better start thinking about another career
00:01:30.289 --> 00:01:33.349
And I am deadly serious about that Dead fuckin' serious
00:01:33.426 --> 00:01:35.036
And have your rebuttals ready
00:01:35.001 --> 00:01:37.001
A guy says Call me tomorrow Bullshit
00:01:37.995 --> 00:01:42.999
Somebody tells you they got money problems buying 200 shares is lying
00:01:42.265 --> 00:01:44.001
You know what I say to that
00:01:44.999 --> 00:01:47.366
I say Look man Tell me you don't like my firm
00:01:47.435 --> 00:01:50.001
Tell me you don't like my idea Tell me you don't like my necktie
00:01:50.999 --> 00:01:54.836
But don't tell me you can't put together 2 500 bucks
00:01:54.001 --> 00:01:58.102
And there is no such thing as a no sale call
00:01:58.175 --> 00:02:00.574
A sale is made on every call you make
00:02:00.643 --> 00:02:05.705
Either you sell the client some stock or he sells you on a reason he can't
00:02:05.078 --> 00:02:08.001
Either way a sale is made
00:02:08.482 --> 00:02:11.001
The only question is Who's gonna close You or him
00:02:11.917 --> 00:02:16.025
And be relentless That's it I'm done
