When they came to Sydney, they would stay with us so they had accommodation, free meals. My husband was a mechanic and, we had a service station. They'd come and stay and we would help them out at the race team. Lewis: He drove cars that weren't all that good. He didn't have the support of the factory. He wasn't the works' driver anymore. He was a privateer. He had to lift this team up and make it competitive. Bev: Very rarely were mechanics paid. It was very much a labor of love so people who were keen on the scene would come along and give their all because they wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves. Peter: Be fair to say that when we got to Bathurst in 1975 we really had to win to pay the rent. Man on PA: Away they go!
