With the fish market
nearing completion, Harbour Master Rob Parsons
is moving on with the next phase of Newlyn 2.0. To prepare Newlyn for life
after leaving the EU, he's applied for £6 million worth
of funding from the EU. We've got a possibility
of a £6.25 million project, which is exponentially bigger
than that of the market, but that's the next phase.
And then after that, I'm looking at new quays
and £30 million, £50 million. Newlyn is a proper industrial port
and I don't want that to change. However, it doesn't mean
I'm restrictive to the growth of businesses that want
to come here. People say we should have
restaurants overlooking it, that's happened in a lot of ports. So in the past,
it was just about fishing. No-one else was welcome. And we have to be sympathetic
to our statute, which clearly states
we are a fishing port, but we are a port and that means
that everyone's welcome. And I think that's sort of a
slightly different approach for me

With the fish market
nearing completion,
00:00:03.048 --> 00:00:06.004
Harbour Master Rob Parsons
is moving on with
00:00:06.004 --> 00:00:08.088
the next phase of Newlyn 2.0.
00:00:08.088 --> 00:00:12.036
To prepare Newlyn for life
after leaving the EU,
00:00:12.036 --> 00:00:15.004
he's applied for £6 million worth
of funding
00:00:15.004 --> 00:00:17.004
from the EU.
00:00:17.004 --> 00:00:20.096
We've got a possibility
of a £6.25 million project,
00:00:20.096 --> 00:00:23.068
which is exponentially bigger
than that of the market,
00:00:23.068 --> 00:00:25.008
but that's the next phase.
And then after that,
00:00:25.008 --> 00:00:28.002
I'm looking at new quays
and £30 million, £50 million.
00:00:28.002 --> 00:00:32.016
Newlyn is a proper industrial port
and I don't want that to change.
00:00:32.016 --> 00:00:34.088
However, it doesn't mean
I'm restrictive to the growth
00:00:34.088 --> 00:00:36.006
of businesses that want
to come here.
00:00:36.006 --> 00:00:38.088
People say we should have
restaurants overlooking it,
00:00:38.088 --> 00:00:40.064
that's happened in a lot of ports.
00:00:40.064 --> 00:00:42.088
So in the past,
it was just about fishing.
00:00:42.088 --> 00:00:44.072
No-one else was welcome.
00:00:44.072 --> 00:00:46.008
And we have to be sympathetic
to our statute,
00:00:46.008 --> 00:00:49.004
which clearly states
we are a fishing port,
00:00:49.004 --> 00:00:52.044
but we are a port and that means
that everyone's welcome.
00:00:52.044 --> 00:00:56.000
And I think that's sort of a
slightly different approach for me.
