[Roth] We came from very,
very different worlds. But a big part of your time
as an actor is doing nothing. And we find ourselves
sitting, having a beer, waiting for the sun to go down,
and he would talk to me a lot about things that he'd done,
things that he regretted, his time in prison, his mom.
He was a very sensitive guy. But that wasn't stuff that you
could, at that point certainly, put in the public's eye. I mean, he was huge. And it was the first film where I actually
had to have security. Rival groups would come down
to the location calling at him because of the East Coast/
West Coast thing. [Tupac] That's what's
frustrating and aggravating, that I can't live down
this big shadow that I made to protect myself 'cause it started out
as I need an alter ego to keep people away from me
and to protect myself. And not that it's like
a total facade. It's me,
