A western part,
where we are right now, which is made up
of two suspension bridges, an approach that goes
down into San Francisco, and an eastern part
that touches down in Oakland. [narrator]
For more than 50 years, this eastern part carried
traffic toward Oakland. At the time of
its construction in the 1930s, this was the longest span

in a much longer bridge.
