Every truss is expected
to sag a little bit, but too much is a sign
something is wrong. [narrator] As more weight
was added to the truss,
it deflected, ripping the concrete top
from the supporting column along with the anchor bolts
embedded in it. That was the reason
for the excessive deflection, because that connection
couldn't hold that truss
in that ridged arrangement, so not strong enough
to do the job. [narrator]
For unknown reasons, the column wasn't repaired
or the bolts replaced. Instead, the construction team
decided to straighten
and reinforce the truss. First of all,
they put some jacks
underneath the trusses and jacked it
on its original load
to sag a little bit, but too much is a sign

Every truss is expected
to sag a little bit,
00:00:04.007 --> 00:00:07.933
but too much is a sign
something is wrong.
00:00:09.333 --> 00:00:12.008
[narrator] As more weight
was added to the truss,
it deflected,
00:00:12.008 --> 00:00:15.499
ripping the concrete top
from the supporting column
00:00:15.499 --> 00:00:17.009
along with the anchor bolts
embedded in it.
00:00:19.008 --> 00:00:21.933
That was the reason
for the excessive deflection,
00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:25.599
because that connection
couldn't hold that truss
in that ridged arrangement,
00:00:25.599 --> 00:00:27.599
so not strong enough
to do the job.
00:00:28.008 --> 00:00:30.001
[narrator]
For unknown reasons,
00:00:30.001 --> 00:00:33.233
the column wasn't repaired
or the bolts replaced.
00:00:33.003 --> 00:00:39.433
Instead, the construction team
decided to straighten
and reinforce the truss.
00:00:39.433 --> 00:00:42.833
First of all,
they put some jacks
underneath the trusses
00:00:42.009 --> 00:00:45.499
and jacked it
on its original load.
