The Bay Area was shaken
by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake. This was the largest tremor
since 1906. In Oakland,
the Cypress Street Viaduct devastatingly collapsed,
as did a span
of the Bay Bridge. Incredibly, San Francisco's
skyscrapers emerged intact, but structures closer
to the bay weren't so lucky. but structures closer

were left reeling
as the seawall was damaged
