You can consider yourselves fortunate to have been chosen for this crew. In case you don't know how fortunate you are, I will let Dr. Nadir tell you what is happening to those left behind. Dr. Nadir:

But, it means that we are extinct as a race unless, of course, we can find some good breeding stock and repopulate our planet
