to tell his story from the perspective
of an enslaved person, and because of
that authenticity and because of the skills
that he developed to communicate
that authenticity, the sky was the limit for
Douglass' ambitions and aims. He wanted to defeat slavery, but I think he also has
that young man's ambition to defeat those around him who were doing
the same thing he was, and he just wanted to do it
better than they did
