SAM SIMON: At the time,
this is when Seinfeld was looking at 250 million
dollars from his show. And he said it,
he felt he owed it to his family to hit a home run, but they wanted to change
the tone of the network. So, in spite
of pretty good numbers, the show was canceled. He's a guy that wrote
all his own material and got on the stage by himself, and just the nature of what
we were doing isn't that. So it's just weird
that he considers it this black mark and this failure 'cause you just go,
"Well, that's TV." That's why most comedians fail.
We're not good collaborators, obviously. (CHUCKLES) Why the hell are you
up there by yourself?

SAM SIMON: At the time,
this is when Seinfeld
00:00:03.334 --> 00:00:06.625
was looking at 250 million
dollars from his show.
00:00:06.708 --> 00:00:09.334
And he said it,
he felt he owed it to his family
00:00:09.416 --> 00:00:11.083
to hit a home run,
00:00:11.167 --> 00:00:15.583
but they wanted to change
the tone of the network.
00:00:15.666 --> 00:00:17.625
So, in spite
of pretty good numbers,
00:00:17.708 --> 00:00:19.167
the show was canceled.
00:00:20.025 --> 00:00:23.000
He's a guy that wrote
all his own material
00:00:23.998 --> 00:00:25.334
and got on the stage by himself,
00:00:25.416 --> 00:00:29.708
and just the nature of what
we were doing isn't that.
00:00:29.791 --> 00:00:32.292
So it's just weird
that he considers it
00:00:32.375 --> 00:00:33.875
this black mark and this failure
00:00:33.958 --> 00:00:36.375
'cause you just go,
"Well, that's TV."
00:00:38.025 --> 00:00:42.791
That's why most comedians fail.
We're not good collaborators,
00:00:42.875 --> 00:00:44.625
obviously. (CHUCKLES)
00:00:44.708 --> 00:00:46.416
Why the hell are you
up there by yourself?
