in the Union. He said, "To lose Kentucky
is nearly the same as to lose the whole game." He thought the other
border states might follow suit as well. And then a Confederate army
marched into Kentucky, so Grant moves as fast as he
can to Paducah, Kentucky. [tense music] ♪ ♪ ‐ Dear Julia, secession flags
were flying through Paducah in anticipation
of Southern troops. Our arrival, therefore, put
quite a damper on their hopes. ♪ ♪
