with their trench knives and their bayonets. Anything that they can to just
get a little semblance of cover. Foxholes are a critical perimeter defense against the inevitable
German counterattack. German doctrine very much cherishes the idea of offensive action. So even if you lose a position, you are supposed to attack, counterattack as quickly as possible
