I'm really excited to work with
Jennifer and Paul this morning because we're gonna be
planting an apple tree and a plum tree You want to bury it at the level
where you would be in the container, so maybe about an inch
or two above the root ball They're gonna start off small
but in about two years, they'll definitely start
producing fruit for the family And, Paul, you scoop around
and I'll just use my hands to layer in
compost while you add in the dirt The really cool thing about this
project is nothing goes to waste So the trees that we took
down, we saved that mulch and we're using that
to mulch the new tree It's all coming full circle Mulch does a couple of things It keeps the soil moist
and it'll break down over time and feed the plants
with organic matter [Paul] I think it's kind of
nice that we're replacing some of the trees that we
took down - [Jamila] Mmm-hmm It's like you took down
old trees to create your garden
and those old trees are now

I'm really excited to work with
Jennifer and Paul this morning
00:00:04.637 --> 00:00:06.707
because we're gonna be
planting an apple tree
00:00:06.084 --> 00:00:08.024
and a plum tree
00:00:08.374 --> 00:00:11.144
You want to bury it at the level
where you would be in the container,
00:00:11.277 --> 00:00:14.317
so maybe about an inch
or two above the root ball
00:00:14.447 --> 00:00:17.217
They're gonna start off small
but in about two years,
00:00:17.349 --> 00:00:19.319
they'll definitely start
producing fruit for the family
00:00:19.452 --> 00:00:22.422
And, Paul, you scoop around
and I'll just
00:00:22.554 --> 00:00:26.324
use my hands to layer in
compost while you add in the dirt
00:00:26.458 --> 00:00:29.428
The really cool thing about this
project is nothing goes to waste
00:00:29.562 --> 00:00:31.702
So the trees that we took
down, we saved that mulch
00:00:31.083 --> 00:00:34.009
and we're using that
to mulch the new tree
00:00:35.999 --> 00:00:36.534
It's all coming full circle
00:00:36.669 --> 00:00:38.539
Mulch does a couple of things
00:00:38.671 --> 00:00:43.111
It keeps the soil moist
and it'll break down over time
00:00:43.242 --> 00:00:46.282
and feed the plants
with organic matter
00:00:46.411 --> 00:00:48.003
[Paul] I think it's kind of
nice that we're replacing
00:00:48.213 --> 00:00:50.113
some of the trees that we
took down - [Jamila] Mmm-hmm
00:00:50.249 --> 00:00:52.219
It's like you took down
old trees
00:00:52.351 --> 00:00:54.961
to create your garden
and those old trees are now...
