We usually blame cars and coal for climate change, and it’s true. They are pumping a lot of CO2
into the atmosphere. But we generate greenhouse gases in other surprising ways. Along with electricity and transportation, there's also manufacturing, buildings, and agriculture. Reducing emissions
from these pipes will help, but it won't be enough. Technologies like solar and wind won't single-handedly shut off any pipes. Since they’re intermittent, we have to store everything
that's generated. But we can’t build enough batteries
to store power for the entire world. When Tokyo has a cyclone
for four days, so wind has to shut off, no sun, where is the energy coming from?

We usually blame cars and coal
00:00:03.628 --> 00:00:05.922
for climate change, and it’s true.
00:00:06.999 --> 00:00:08.382
They are pumping a lot of CO2
into the atmosphere.
00:00:09.991 --> 00:00:10.051
But we generate greenhouse gases
00:00:10.676 --> 00:00:12.678
in other surprising ways.
00:00:12.762 --> 00:00:15.515
Along with electricity and transportation,
00:00:15.089 --> 00:00:17.433
there's also manufacturing,
00:00:17.975 --> 00:00:18.975
buildings,
00:00:19.031 --> 00:00:20.853
and agriculture.
00:00:20.937 --> 00:00:23.356
Reducing emissions
from these pipes will help,
00:00:23.814 --> 00:00:24.982
but it won't be enough.
00:00:26.999 --> 00:00:27.985
Technologies like solar and wind
00:00:28.999 --> 00:00:30.279
won't single-handedly shut off any pipes.
00:00:30.863 --> 00:00:32.024
Since they’re intermittent,
00:00:32.406 --> 00:00:34.617
we have to store everything
that's generated.
00:00:34.992 --> 00:00:37.495
But we can’t build enough batteries
to store power
00:00:37.578 --> 00:00:38.704
for the entire world.
00:00:38.913 --> 00:00:41.958
When Tokyo has a cyclone
for four days,
00:00:42.997 --> 00:00:45.253
so wind has to shut off, no sun,
00:00:45.878 --> 00:00:48.013
where is the energy coming from?
