brilliant marble walls and frescoes to impress his guests. Ancient sources describe
Nero's hunger for opulence: they say he owned a golden fishing net, a golden box in which
he kept deadly poisons. Even his chamber pot was made of gold. He plundered the gold for his palace from
all the corners of his vast empire
