We had a single rickety bike
with makeshift tires, which I rode to Overijssel through the bitter cold,
wind, and rain. Those journeys upset me
very much, I saw such an awful lot
of suffering. I'll never forget it. But I could keep our family
on its feet, even though my wife
is now in bad shape. However, I wasn't able
to get any work done. That was the bitterest pill
I had to swallow
with makeshift tires, which I rode to Overijssel through the bitter cold,
