He was quite clear that he never, ever
wanted to sing in public. So about a year went by and Suzanne was a big song by then. And I was doing
a big fundraiser in New York and I said, "You have to come with me. "I wanna put you on stage "and I want you to sing Suzanne. "Everybody is dying
to hear you sing this song." He said, "I can't sing.
I have a horrible voice." I said, "You don't have a horrible voice." So he came out
and he stood in the middle there and he began singing the song. And I knew that
he was shaking like a leaf, because I had seen him,
seen his hands on the guitar. In the middle of Suzanne,
he broke down and began to sob and walked off the stage. (LAUGHS) He was dying of fear. (SCOFFS) He was having what we know as a great, massive attack of stage fright

He was quite clear
00:00:02.708 --> 00:00:06.166
that he never, ever
wanted to sing in public.
00:00:06.025 --> 00:00:08.875
So about a year went by
00:00:08.958 --> 00:00:11.291
and Suzanne was a big song by then.
00:00:11.708 --> 00:00:15.333
And I was doing
a big fundraiser in New York
00:00:15.416 --> 00:00:17.708
and I said, "You have to come with me.
00:00:17.791 --> 00:00:19.458
"I wanna put you on stage
00:00:19.541 --> 00:00:21.075
"and I want you to sing Suzanne.
00:00:21.833 --> 00:00:24.208
"Everybody is dying
to hear you sing this song."
00:00:24.333 --> 00:00:27.998
He said, "I can't sing.
I have a horrible voice."
00:00:27.125 --> 00:00:28.916
I said, "You don't have a horrible voice."
00:00:29.375 --> 00:00:33.125
So he came out
and he stood in the middle there
00:00:33.208 --> 00:00:34.666
and he began singing the song.
00:00:34.075 --> 00:00:36.833
And I knew that
he was shaking like a leaf,
00:00:36.916 --> 00:00:40.375
because I had seen him,
seen his hands on the guitar.
00:00:41.333 --> 00:00:45.291
In the middle of Suzanne,
he broke down and began to sob
00:00:45.666 --> 00:00:47.458
and walked off the stage. (LAUGHS)
00:00:48.125 --> 00:00:51.333
He was dying of fear. (SCOFFS)
00:00:51.416 --> 00:00:53.958
He was having what we know as a great,
00:00:54.208 --> 00:00:58.125
massive attack of stage fright.
