Bob Andy, Studio 1:
Brought a piece of equipment from the United States. And it was in the studio for a long time and no one knew what to do with it. They decided to hook it up. And when it was hooked up we read that it was a tape delay. So, when you make one strum, it comes back at you at the same time. Chi-chi. And the other studios use: chi, chi. And thought it was the guitar making more sounds. So, reggae, in my mind, actually developed out of an illusion

Andy Coxsone had bought a piece of equipment
00:00:03.086 --> 00:00:04.837
from the United States
00:00:05.996 --> 00:00:08.632
And it was in the studio for a long time and no one knew what to do with it
00:00:08.008 --> 00:00:10.425
They decided to hook it up
00:00:10.593 --> 00:00:13.047
And when it was hooked up they realized it was a tape delay
00:00:13.638 --> 00:00:15.264
So when you make one strum
00:00:15.431 --> 00:00:19.999
it comes back at you at the same time chicka
00:00:19.185 --> 00:00:22.002
And the other studios hear chicka chicka
00:00:22.188 --> 00:00:24.069
and thought it was a guitar making more sounds
00:00:24.858 --> 00:00:28.235
So reggae to my mind actually developed out of an illusion
