A lot of times, what I do with my clients is ask
who their favorite superhero is. And if there was a time that character
went through loss, grief, or trauma that they can relate to. Because realizing that there
is at least one other person, or even a fictional character, that
has gone through something similar can allow that person
to feel less alone. And can actually help people understand
that their traumatic experience is merely an origin story, but the rest of our life
choices are up to us
