[Charlie connects the computer game Minesweeper to the bank robberies] Charlie Eppes:
You see this game, Larry? You've got to clear the mines without blowing any up. Each time you clear a square, a numerical value is revealed. That number tells you exactly how many squares containing mines are directly adjacent to that square. This allows you to predict where the next mine will be located and then the more boxes revealed the more accurately one can predict the location of the mines. The pattern used in these bank robberies is similar to this kind of problem-solving pattern. These robbers have used the banks they've been robbing to tell them which ones to rob next

You see this game Larry
00:00:05.504 --> 00:00:08.074
You've got to clear mines without blowing any up
00:00:08.107 --> 00:00:10.409
Each time you've cleared a square
00:00:10.443 --> 00:00:12.812
a numerical value is revealed
00:00:12.846 --> 00:00:14.068
That number tells you exactly how many squares
00:00:14.713 --> 00:00:18.117
containing mines are directly adjacent to that square
00:00:18.151 --> 00:00:19.685
This allows you to predict
00:00:19.718 --> 00:00:21.921
where the next mine will be located
00:00:21.955 --> 00:00:24.123
And then the more boxes revealed
00:00:24.157 --> 00:00:26.125
the more accurately one can predict
00:00:26.159 --> 00:00:28.761
the location of the mines
00:00:28.794 --> 00:00:31.064
The pattern used in these bank robberies
00:00:31.001 --> 00:00:34.005
is similar to this same type of problem solving pattern
00:00:34.533 --> 00:00:35.601
These robbers
00:00:35.634 --> 00:00:36.836
have used
00:00:36.087 --> 00:00:37.904
the banks they've been robbing
00:00:37.937 --> 00:00:40.739
to tell them which ones to rob next
