After a while, I would start
patrolling in the Bradley with my fingers inside the cupola - I just didn't want to lose
my fingers. Isn't that funny? I was always afraid my fingers
were going to get blown away. Despite his men
being attacked daily, Sassaman continued
to meet local leaders. He even took the initiative
to set up elections for the Balad Town Council. Lots of photos,
everybody's having fun. It's fun, it's exciting. The whole idea
was to like, you know, get this institution of, you know,
political reform. I mean, this was like,
people were walking for miles to, like, cast their ballot
