The elections in 2005 not only confirmed that the
Sunnis had lost control to the Shia, but, for many Iraqis,
the democratic process highlighted sectarian differences
for the first time. Before 2003, when Saddam was
controlling a dictatorship, you can never find someone who says that there is
a difference between Iraqis. It was very hard to. What do you mean, there was

who's Shia, who's Christian. More like one country,
and one people. This is the good side
about that time. Months of aggressive campaigning
