CARLTON: It's been before my lifetime since the last female panther was documented north of the Caloosahatchee River. You can think of the Caloosahatchee River
as the dividing line {\an8}between the northern Everglades
and the southern Everglades. {\an8}And it looks like a line across a map {\an8}because it's been dredged
into a straight canal. {\an8}And that river has been
the northern limit {\an8}to the breeding population
of female panthers {\an8}for the past 50 years. {\an8}It's a formidable barrier
across that landscape, but you could imagine
standing on the edge of that and deciding to put your foot in
and take that swim. If we can capture the right image, we can show the world
who that panther is. That's going to be the spark that lights a much bigger fire
to save this whole corridor

CARLTON: It's been before my lifetime
00:00:03.085 --> 00:00:05.671
since the last female panther was documented
00:00:05.796 --> 00:00:07.756
north of the Caloosahatchee River.
00:00:10.426 --> 00:00:13.178
You can think of the Caloosahatchee River
as the dividing line
00:00:13.345 --> 00:00:16.064
{\an8}between the northern Everglades
and the southern Everglades.
00:00:16.765 --> 00:00:18.642
{\an8}And it looks like a line across a map
00:00:18.809 --> 00:00:21.052
{\an8}because it's been dredged
into a straight canal.
00:00:24.064 --> 00:00:27.568
{\an8}And that river has been
the northern limit
00:00:27.693 --> 00:00:30.404
{\an8}to the breeding population
of female panthers
00:00:30.612 --> 00:00:32.614
{\an8}for the past 50 years.
00:00:34.533 --> 00:00:39.204
{\an8}It's a formidable barrier
across that landscape,
00:00:39.371 --> 00:00:41.874
but you could imagine
standing on the edge of that
00:00:42.001 --> 00:00:44.668
and deciding to put your foot in
and take that swim.
00:00:46.545 --> 00:00:49.002
If we can capture the right image,
00:00:49.214 --> 00:00:52.301
we can show the world
who that panther is.
00:00:52.509 --> 00:00:54.178
That's going to be the spark
00:00:54.178 --> 00:00:58.014
that lights a much bigger fire
to save this whole corridor.
