I'll never be able to shave.
- (chuckles) (indistinct chatter) Illma: I got a call
from Evan saying, "Oh no, I think I
started something." So we started researching
how to change the law and the statute of limitations
is clearly the problem because, statistically,
a lot of victims take seven to 10 years
to even recognize that they were a
victim of this abuse. Evan: When we set out
to write the bill, the statute of
limitations for reporting domestic violence
crimes in California was only one to three years. We wanted to eliminate the
statute of limitations completely, but in working with legislators, we settled on asking
to extend the statute to seven to 10 years
as a compromise. And that's how democracy
works, you know?
