Pathankot Airbase at 05:40 p.m. Right after that,
ten Indian airbases were bombed. India was well-prepared
for these attacks... and promptly launched
a counter attack on Pakistan. On that very evening,
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi addressed the entire nation. She said that India and Pakistan
are at war. On December 16, 1971
the Pakistan Army accepted defeat. Pakistan signed the
instrument of surrender in Dhaka. Thus, a new country was born
in the Indian subcontinent. Bangladesh
