My search for soul food is getting real. Real, real. Now I'm headed
a few hours south of Jackson, to Natchez, Mississippi. Some of my ancestors were
not only enslaved Africans, but also Choctaw people, a tribe whose ancestral homelands once covered most of what would
become the state of Mississippi. To learn more about how the mixing
of those cultures flavored soul food, I'm meeting up with Jarita Frazier-King, owner of the Natchez Heritage
School of Cooking. Jarita is also Black with native roots, as well as an educator
with the plug on the indigenous and Black soul food connection. And I personally can't wait
to connect some food to my mouth. Jarita
