As our trip in Liberia
drew to a close, I questioned whether there was
any alternative fishing method that could provide some kind of solution to both the environmental and humanitarian ramifications
of this industry. And a glimmer of hope presented itself
in the form of fish farming, an industry with the reputation of being an eco-friendly way
to feed the world without all the problems
of wild-caught fish. With no bycatch, no illegal fishing, no sea-floor damage, no killing of endangered species, and no dangerous working conditions, it was exactly what I was looking for. Yeah, so a lot of people
jump to the conclusion that sustainable seafood
comes from farming fish and not high seas fishing, but it's really not the case

As our trip in Liberia drew to a close,
00:00:03.294 --> 00:00:06.255
I questioned whether there was any alternative fishing method
00:00:06.338 --> 00:00:08.215
that could provide some kind of solution
00:00:08.299 --> 00:00:09.633
to both the environmental
00:00:09.717 --> 00:00:12.047
and humanitarian ramifications of this industry.
00:00:12.553 --> 00:00:16.064
And a glimmer of hope presented itself in the form of fish farming,
00:00:16.724 --> 00:00:18.035
an industry with the reputation
00:00:18.434 --> 00:00:20.853
of being an eco-friendly way to feed the world
00:00:20.936 --> 00:00:23.355
without all the problems of wild-caught fish.
00:00:24.231 --> 00:00:26.065
With no bycatch, no illegal fishing,
00:00:26.734 --> 00:00:28.001
no sea-floor damage,
00:00:28.152 --> 00:00:30.112
no killing of endangered species,
00:00:30.196 --> 00:00:31.864
and no dangerous working conditions,
00:00:31.947 --> 00:00:33.741
it was exactly what I was looking for.
00:00:33.824 --> 00:00:35.951
Yeah, so a lot of people jump to the conclusion
00:00:36.997 --> 00:00:38.579
that sustainable seafood comes from farming fish
00:00:38.662 --> 00:00:40.122
and not high seas fishing,
00:00:40.206 --> 00:00:42.208
but it's really not the case.
