stores, Meleager is returning from
an exhibition at another museum. Meleager is definitely
one of our star objects, this gold, shimmering, glittering
little statuette. This 30-centimetre-high bronze
represents a mythological figure who stands ready to spear a bull. Is it all right? Yeah... He was made in northern Italy
in the 1480s by Antico, one of the finest masters of
bronze sculpture, who brought the classical world
to life. Meleager's been out
for three or four months. He is so rarely loaned. He's beautiful, some of the best
Renaissance bronze work that we have in this country
