It's been nearly four weeks since the glass first came off
Raphael's cartoons. That's that plate on the right. And after 81 hours of photographing
and scanning each of them, at last, the results are
ready to be seen. Ah, it creates this. Wow. These are the images without
the actual colour on the picture, so it's just the paper. See how it's been pressed onto the
canvas to glue. So that's really amazing. The digital analysis
has seen through the paint to show the structure below
for the first time, revealing more than 200 sheets of
paper glued together like a patchwork quilt. During the Renaissance, paper was
often used for early sketches
