Like the writing case, this salver -
or serving dish - takes functional design to new heights. It was made in British India
from gold and silver, using an intricate technique
called filigree. It's almost painful to look at,
given the, knowing the labour involved,
you know? THEY CHUCKLE How many people went blind
to make that? Filigree involves weaving together
strands of metal so finely you can see through them. I hadn't really appreciated just
how translucent it is, but if we can light it right... Put the light on it at a particular
way, to try and make most of that. It's gorgeous. Well, take it, wrap it up.

in Julius's carefully curated Victorian time capsule, which opens
to the public in five days' time
