After a while,
Joe and Jack left Timely Comics and the publisher looked around
at his vast empire, and he saw this one skinny kid
with a broom in one hand and a typewriter in the other and he said,
"Hey, where's the rest of my staff?" And I said, "I'm it." He said, "Somebody's gotta
edit these books." He said, "Stan, can you hold down the job
till I get somebody else?" And I said, "Okay, I'll take it." So, he went off into the outside world
to seek another editor, and I was now Stan Lee,
boy editor pro tem. And that was it, I became the editor,
and I think he forgot to hire somebody because I remained the editor. So at 17, I was really running the place. And since I was my own writer
and my own editor, I didn't have much to change. So I was able to get these stories
moving very fast

After a while,
Joe and Jack left Timely Comics
00:00:04.837 --> 00:00:08.299
and the publisher looked around
at his vast empire,
00:00:08.299 --> 00:00:11.385
and he saw this one skinny kid
with a broom in one hand
00:00:11.385 --> 00:00:12.845
and a typewriter in the other
00:00:12.845 --> 00:00:15.515
and he said,
"Hey, where's the rest of my staff?"
00:00:15.515 --> 00:00:16.682
And I said, "I'm it."
00:00:16.808 --> 00:00:19.185
He said, "Somebody's gotta
edit these books."
00:00:19.185 --> 00:00:22.396
He said, "Stan, can you hold down the job
till I get somebody else?"
00:00:22.396 --> 00:00:24.398
And I said, "Okay, I'll take it."
00:00:24.398 --> 00:00:28.194
So, he went off into the outside world
to seek another editor,
00:00:28.194 --> 00:00:31.028
and I was now Stan Lee,
boy editor pro tem.
00:00:32.365 --> 00:00:36.119
And that was it, I became the editor,
and I think he forgot to hire somebody
00:00:36.119 --> 00:00:38.001
because I remained the editor.
00:00:38.001 --> 00:00:40.581
So at 17, I was really running the place.
00:00:41.624 --> 00:00:45.999
And since I was my own writer
and my own editor,
00:00:45.999 --> 00:00:47.421
I didn't have much to change.
00:00:47.421 --> 00:00:50.967
So I was able to get these stories
moving very fast.
