In April, my older brother Dennis had been killed in a jeep accident. Four months had passed but my parents still hadn't been able to put the pieces back together again. [Gordie heads to Denny's bedroom,, he sees pictures of his brother's football trophies and game and a prom picture of Denny and his girlfriend Jane. Gordie goes to the closet to get the canteen, but as he leaves, he remembers a very tender fond moment with Denny]
