Quote
Byron Orlok:
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I'd like to leave you with a little story to think about as you drive home... through the darkness... Once upon a time, many, many years ago, a rich merchant in Baghdad sent his servant to the marketplace to buy provisions... and after a while the servant came back, white-faced and trembling, and said, 'Master, when I was in the marketplace, I was jostled by a woman in the crowd, and I turned to look, and I saw that it was Death that jostled me. And she looked at me and made a threatening gesture. Oh, master, please, lend me your horse, that I may ride away from this city and escape my fate. I will ride to Samarra and Death will not find me there.' So the merchant loaned him the horse and the servant mounted it, and dug his spurs into its flank, and as fast as the horse could gallop he rode towards Samarra. Then the merchant went to the market-place and he saw Death standing in the crowd and he said to her, 'Why did you make a threatening gesture to my servant when you saw him this morning?' And Death said, 'I made no threatening gesture - that was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him here in Baghdad, for I have an appointment with him tonight... in Samarra.'

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
00:00:07.088 --> 00:00:10.799
I'd like to leave you
with a story to think about
00:00:10.008 --> 00:00:15.346
as you drive home...
through the darkness.
00:00:15.347 --> 00:00:19.183
Once upon a time, many years ago...
00:00:19.184 --> 00:00:23.396
There should be a pin spot on my face.
00:00:23.397 --> 00:00:28.402
Once upon a time,
many, many years ago,
00:00:28.444 --> 00:00:33.449
a rich merchant in Baghdad
sent his servant to the marketplace.
00:00:34.867 --> 00:00:39.872
After a while, the servant came back,
white-faced and trembling, and said,
00:00:40.248 --> 00:00:45.253
"Master, when I was in the market,
I was jostled by a woman."
00:00:46.838 --> 00:00:51.843
"l turned to look, and I saw
that it was Death that had jostled me."
00:00:53.997 --> 00:00:56.639
"She looked at me
and made a threatening gesture."
00:00:56.064 --> 00:00:59.006
"Master, please lend me your horse,"
00:00:59.601 --> 00:01:04.523
"that I may ride away from this city
and escape my fate."
00:01:05.232 --> 00:01:10.999
"l will ride to Samarra,
and Death will not find me there."

The merchant loaned him the horse.
00:01:14.158 --> 00:01:18.578
The servant mounted it
and dug his spurs into its flank.
00:01:18.999 --> 00:01:23.999
As fast as the horse could gallop,
he rode towards Samarra.
00:01:26.337 --> 00:01:29.034
The merchant went to the market.
00:01:29.999 --> 00:01:34.346
He saw Death standing
in the crowd and he said to her,
00:01:34.596 --> 00:01:39.601
"Why did you make
a threatening gesture to my servant?"
00:01:41.001 --> 00:01:45.398
Death said,
"l made no threatening gesture."
00:01:45.399 --> 00:01:49.152
"That was only a start of surprise."
00:01:49.001 --> 00:01:54.158
"l was astonished
to see him here in Baghdad,"
00:01:54.408 --> 00:01:59.414
"for I have an appointment
with him tonight in Samarra."
