I am back to where I started... ..in Japan's dense forests, the flicker of the spirits
all around me. In the course of my journey, I have encountered a culture
whose preoccupation with nature seems almost hard-wired, that sees the landscape as sacred and has painted and reshaped it
for centuries - and though modern Japan doesn't
always seem to value nature, nature has shaped its values, aesthetic principles so different

I am back to where I started...
00:00:04.044 --> 00:00:06.004
..in Japan's dense forests,
00:00:06.004 --> 00:00:09.024
the flicker of the spirits
all around me.
00:00:11.036 --> 00:00:13.024
In the course of my journey,
00:00:13.024 --> 00:00:16.088
I have encountered a culture
whose preoccupation with nature
00:00:16.088 --> 00:00:19.012
seems almost hard-wired,
00:00:19.012 --> 00:00:22.012
that sees the landscape as sacred
00:00:22.012 --> 00:00:25.004
and has painted and reshaped it
for centuries -
00:00:25.004 --> 00:00:30.000
and though modern Japan doesn't
always seem to value nature,
00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:33.002
nature has shaped its values,
00:00:33.002 --> 00:00:37.004
aesthetic principles so different
from those of the West.
