After the war, it was felt that there should be a lasting memorial to the old Wellingtonians who had died, and so it was decided to transform a large hall in the middle of college into a boys' reading room, and on the walls, on parchment panels, the names of all the old Wellingtonians killed in the First and Second World Wars, but the panels had hinged doors which could cover them because it was felt that it would be too depressing and miserable for the boys in there to have to look all the time at the lists of their dead comrades
