Jason 'Jake' Rogers: [enters] Hi. Anna? Anna? Anna! *Anna!*
Anna Reeves: What's the matter? Oh, I fell asleep.
[throws her arms around his neck, and kisses him]
Anna Reeves: You're early. Hey, you're shaking.
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: No, look what I have.
[holds up two bottles of champagne]
Anna Reeves: [snickers] For a whole year?
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: No, for tonight.
[sits down on chair]
Anna Reeves: You've got the jitters.
[kneels down next to him on floor]
Anna Reeves: Was it bad at home?
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: No, no worse. Like always.
[smashes the neck off one of the bottles on the nearest piece of furniture, and as she tries to clean up:]
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: I can't take much more of it. Now, how many times did I say that?
Anna Reeves: Every Saturday night.
[smiles]
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: [Anna pours a drink, takes a sip, then hands it to him, he takes a sip, then puts the drink out of the way] You're the only woman I ever knew who never has to talk. First thing I ever noticed about you. Even when you were a little girl.
[Anna gives a vague smile]
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: I got a present for you.
[takes a little box out of his pocket, hands it to her, and she sits there looking at it]
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: Well, open it, darling.
Anna Reeves: [obviously expensive earrings] How much did they cost?
[raises her eyebrows]
Anna Reeves: Hmm? $500?
[Jake smirks, then chuckles]
Anna Reeves: 800, 900?
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: Why do you have to know? 2000.
Anna Reeves: Jake, where am I gonna wear 'em? You keep giving me things like that. They're just gonna sit in my lousy room
[throws them at Jake]
Anna Reeves: in a rotten drawer and I'll stare at 'em!
Jason 'Jake' Rogers: [sits down next to her] I didn't marry first, Anna, you did. I didn't marry first, you did!
[cups her face]
Anna Reeves: Oh, Jake, I heard you. Come on, stop talking foolish. Stop talking anything.
[kisses him]
