[Nick and Elizabeth are on board The Sea Grass] Nick Castle:
I don't believe in luck, good or bad. I don't believe in anything much. Something did happen once. My father was a fisherman. He ran a trawler out of Whitley Reef. One night, late, he was coming back in. He was out beyond the reef, out near Spivey Point. He looked to windward and saw a brig under shortsail, heading right for him. And he radioed, There was no reply. Nothing moved on deck, but she held her course. My dad and two of his hands, they boarded the brig, the Risa Jane. No one was on board. There was food on the table, and a hot, steaming cup of coffee. But underneath, the tin cup was rusted to the table. And then something caught my father's eye. It was a gold dubloon, minted in Spain, 1867. My dad picked up the coin, put it in his breast pocket of his jacket, and zippered it up. He came home, told us the story, and he unzippered the pocket to give me the coin. It was gone. [a locker door opens, spilling charts] Elizabeth Solley:

I don't believe in luck,
good or bad.
00:00:07.605 --> 00:00:09.024
I don't believe in anything much.
00:00:12.343 --> 00:00:14.145
Something did happen once.
00:00:17.315 --> 00:00:19.001
My father was a fisherman.
00:00:20.118 --> 00:00:23.154
He ran a trawler
out of Whitely Reef.
00:00:24.122 --> 00:00:27.858
One night, late,
he was coming back in.
00:00:28.526 --> 00:00:31.297
He was out beyond the reef,
out near Spivey Point.
00:00:32.964 --> 00:00:34.699
He looked to windward
00:00:35.003 --> 00:00:37.703
and saw a brig under shortsail
00:00:39.007 --> 00:00:40.738
heading right for him.
00:00:43.775 --> 00:00:46.611
And he radioed.
There was no reply.
00:00:47.678 --> 00:00:51.282
Nothing moved on the deck,
but she held her course.
00:00:53.619 --> 00:00:54.752
My dad and two of his hands,
00:00:54.092 --> 00:00:58.456
they boarded the brig...
the Resa Jane.
00:00:59.624 --> 00:01:01.293
No one was on board.
00:01:03.161 --> 00:01:06.631
There was food on the table...
and a hot, steaming cup of coffee.
00:01:06.798 --> 00:01:10.902
But underneath, a tin cup
was rusted to the table.
00:01:12.017 --> 00:01:14.739
And then something caught
my father's eye.
00:01:15.206 --> 00:01:20.545
It was a gold doubloon
minted in Spain, 1867.
00:01:22.012 --> 00:01:24.381
My dad picked up the coin,
put it in his breast pocket
00:01:24.045 --> 00:01:26.517
of his jacket, and zippered it up.
00:01:26.985 --> 00:01:30.755
He came home,
told us the story.
00:01:31.999 --> 00:01:33.791
And he unzippered the pocket
to give me the coin.
00:01:35.999 --> 00:01:36.461
It was gone.
00:01:39.023 --> 00:01:41.999
I think I'll go to
Vancouver now.
00:01:43.999 --> 00:01:46.993
Aaah!
00:01:47.999 --> 00:01:50.208
"April 21st.
The deed is done.
00:01:51.476 --> 00:01:53.001
"Blake followed
our false fire on shore,
00:01:53.879 --> 00:01:57.002
"and his ship broke apart
on the rocks off Spivey Point.
00:01:58.316 --> 00:02:00.151
"We were aided by
an unearthly fog
00:02:00.218 --> 00:02:02.887
"that rolled in
as if heaven sent,
00:02:03.002 --> 00:02:06.224
"although God had no part
in our actions tonight.
00:02:06.992 --> 00:02:09.997
"Blake's gold will be
recovered tomorrow,
00:02:09.001 --> 00:02:13.998
but may the lord forgive us
for what we have done."
00:02:14.999 --> 00:02:16.999
I couldn't read any further.
00:02:18.999 --> 00:02:21.999
Your grandfather
had a way with words.
00:02:24.209 --> 00:02:27.999
Our celebration tonight
is a travesty.
00:02:28.446 --> 00:02:30.001
We're honoring murderers.
