My journey into academia. {\an8}At about three o'clock
we arrived at New Haven. It was a sizable crowd
of picketers carrying signs that said, "Stop beautifying
North Vietnam" and displayed pictures of people supposedly burned by napalm. I got out of the car. The measured slowness, and walked to meet Dr. Brewster. Quite soon, the feeling got across to me that my presence here was really an imposition on him. His manner was absolutely correct. But if I have any antenna at all, I sense that he wished
he had no part of it. {\an8}Can a great democratic society generate the energy to build
projects of order and beauty?

My journey into academia.
00:00:04.586 --> 00:00:08.424
{\an8}At about three o'clock
we arrived at New Haven.
00:00:08.424 --> 00:00:12.469
It was a sizable crowd
of picketers carrying signs
00:00:12.469 --> 00:00:14.093
that said, "Stop beautifying
North Vietnam"
00:00:14.093 --> 00:00:16.807
and displayed pictures of
00:00:16.807 --> 00:00:19.476
people supposedly burned by napalm.
00:00:22.001 --> 00:00:23.397
I got out of the car.
00:00:23.397 --> 00:00:24.815
The measured slowness,
00:00:24.815 --> 00:00:27.109
and walked to meet Dr. Brewster.
00:00:27.086 --> 00:00:29.611
Quite soon, the feeling got across to me
00:00:29.611 --> 00:00:31.155
that my presence here
00:00:31.155 --> 00:00:33.615
was really an imposition on him.
00:00:33.615 --> 00:00:36.285
His manner was absolutely correct.
00:00:36.285 --> 00:00:38.454
But if I have any antenna at all,
00:00:38.454 --> 00:00:41.415
I sense that he wished
he had no part of it.
00:00:42.458 --> 00:00:45.794
{\an8}Can a great democratic society
00:00:45.794 --> 00:00:50.507
generate the energy to build
projects of order and beauty?
