Wednesday, April the 8th. Washington's goodbye to one of America's great heroes, General Douglas MacArthur. We lined up in a solemn single file. Lyndon was on my right, and on my left I found the Attorney General. He looked tanned, healthier, more relaxed than I had seen him. And as the casket came by, flag draped, I felt an echo of the November days of President Kennedy's funeral. He said, "You're doing a wonderful job. Everybody says so." And then, after a noticeable pause, almost as with an effort, he said, "And so is your husband."

Wednesday, April the 8th.
00:00:03.127 --> 00:00:04.067
Washington's goodbye
00:00:04.067 --> 00:00:06.714
to one of America's great heroes,
00:00:06.714 --> 00:00:08.009
General Douglas MacArthur.
00:00:09.133 --> 00:00:12.845
We lined up in a solemn single file.
00:00:12.845 --> 00:00:14.093
Lyndon was on my right, and on my left
00:00:14.093 --> 00:00:17.035
I found the Attorney General.
00:00:17.035 --> 00:00:19.056
He looked tanned, healthier,
00:00:19.056 --> 00:00:21.979
more relaxed than I had seen him.
00:00:22.605 --> 00:00:25.816
And as the casket came by, flag draped,
00:00:25.816 --> 00:00:29.278
I felt an echo of the November days
00:00:29.278 --> 00:00:31.572
of President Kennedy's funeral.
00:00:31.572 --> 00:00:34.001
He said, "You're doing a wonderful job.
00:00:34.001 --> 00:00:35.534
Everybody says so."
00:00:36.998 --> 00:00:38.829
And then, after a noticeable pause,
00:00:38.829 --> 00:00:41.029
almost as with an effort, he said,
00:00:41.874 --> 00:00:43.025
"And so is your husband."
