The reticulated python uses its sudden
and overwhelming attack. Then it coils around its victim
and constricts tightly. With each exhale of its prey,
the snake squeezes until the onset of asphyxiation. These cold-blooded reptiles do not chew
or dismember their prey. They swallow it whole. The powerful digestive enzymes in their stomach
dissolve bones and shells. The mandibles move
independently of each other, slowly inching the prey
into their throat. Backward-pointing teeth help
ensure the prey does not escape if it is still alive
